Blaine's (VE7CQX) Mod Pics

Click on either image to get an extremely high resolution picture (~1.4MB). Caution: this will take a long time over a dialup connection.  The mods on Blaine's rig are different from the earlier mods in several ways.  The top picture shows that instead of screws holding on the straps, there are 'U'-shaped clamps on the casting web.  Also, the lower mod is not soldered to the coax socket for the V/U coax cable.

The lower picture shows the 'Thermal mod' where not one, but two Tokin thermal switches have been added.  The are both hooked to one of the black wires on the fans (both fans are connected in parallel on the PA board).  One of the Tokin switches is over the V/U power output transistor and the other is clamped to the casting web.  If either of these switches reaches its trip point, the fans will come on full speed.  Blaine confirmed that both switches were 40C versions.  We've seen reports of 35, 40, and 50C switches being added for this modification.
