Address: 3579 Granite Court, Martinez, GA 30907 Profession: Family Physician Biography: I enjoyed growing up in the back mountain area of Harvey's Lake and attending Bishop O'Reilly with y'all (sorry, I've lived in the south for a while, I should use proper grammar), I meant yuz guys. Life really did seem much simpler then. I went to Moravian College in Bethlehem,PA and got my BS in Biology. Most importantly, I met my wife, Laurie, there and life has been much better since then. We were married in 1984. I did some post graduate studies at University of Scranton. The following year I headed off to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1986. We really enjoyed the big city. During my first year,I joined the US Army and received a military scholarship for those expensive years. It was very busy but really worth it. We've had eight major moves and lived 13 different places since leaving for college. I did my internship and residency at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. I did my doctoring and cared for the 82nd Airborne there and the 101st Air Assault at Fort Campbell,Kentucky. My first real assignment as a full-fledged doc took us to Fort Sill, Oklahoma (tornado alley...really) where we met more good and godly friends. It was an odd contrast as I was delivering babies (about 350) and doing BioChem HAZARD duty at Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas on the side. Fort Sill is home of the free world artillery. When Saddam got itchy for Kuwait, I was sent to Saudi Arabia as battalion surgeon for the 6/27 Field Artillery MLRS and ATACM missile unit. We toured the outback of Iraq up to Basra during the ground war...unbelievable (we really should have gone all the way to Baghdad). Finally, back to Fort Sill, then my last assignment to Fort Gordon,GA, where I ran the Family Practice Clinic for the residency program. God has richly blessed our family here. In 1993, we left the Army and decided to stay here in Augusta,GA. We enjoy going to the Masters Tournament and more so when corporations like to rent our house for the same Tournament. I've been at University Hospital since then and I am the senior partner in a four member group of family physicians. I am medical director for a couple nursing homes and for some managed care health plans. I also enjoy medical administration on our IPA board (400 physicians... it's like herding cats). We are very involved in our church and community, especially coaching and playing youth soccer, baseball, snow skiing, swimming, biking, regular beach bum trips, ballet. This was supposed to be a short bio, but God has done so much more for us. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make the reunion, but we will be praying for a great time and safe gathering for y'all. With much affection and fond memories of all my classmates, Fred. |
