HP Media Vault Recovery


Warning: This procedure will erase all data stored on the the HP Media Vault and return all settings back to factory default.

  1. Put the HP Media Vault in Recovery Mode.

    * Begin with the HP Media Vault powered off.
    * Locate the reset button in the hole between the health LED and the USB port on the front of the HP Media Vault.
    * Use a paper clip to press and hold the reset button.
    * Press and hold the power button located on the rear of the machine.
    * When the unit powers on and the health LED begins flashing purple, release both buttons.

  2. Launch the Recovery Utility.

    Click Start, All Programs, HP Media Vault Recovery, Recovery (mv2100, mv5000 and mv5100 series).


  3. Click Next.

  4. Verify the HP Media Vault is connected to the network and is in recovery mode.

    If the health LED is not flashing purple see Step 1.

    If the health LED is flashing purple, click Next.

    The recovery utility begins searching for your HP Media Vault.

  5. Once found, the IP address of the HP Media Vault is displayed. Click Next.

  6. Browse to the location where you saved the firmware image (*.bin) file, select the file and click Next.

    The firmware transfer begins.

  7. When the firmware transfer completes, click Next.

  8. Click Finish.

  9. After the firmware transfer, the HP Media Vault continues the recovery process. The process can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on the amount of storage you have in the HP Media Vault. The HP Media Vault will reboot and the health indicator will turn solid blue when recovery is complete.
